Wine Tours to Napa

Posted in Napa Valley Articles at 9:41 pm by superjumpz

With the Mustard Festival in full swing and the Napa Valley covered in glowing green and yellow mustard plants, the busy visitor season is just around the corner.

Will the economy crush tourism to the Napa Valley

Hardly.

Airfares are cheaper, hotels are cheaper, restaurants are cheaper and even with a reduction in some visitor traffic, now is the absolute best time to plan wine tours to Napa and the surrounding wine country.  You will have better access to wineries and will likely find wine deals unavailable even 6 months ago.

Travel to the Napa Valley is fun and easy, especially if you are driving (oh, did I forget to mention gas prices are down, too?).

Don’t think you can just show up and expect direct access to all of the top wineries and restaurants on your list.  It will still be busy this year.  Take the time now to plan out where you want to go, what you want to see, how to get there and to make reservations well in advance of your trip.

‘Thinking of postponing your Napa wine tours trip?

Unless you are unemployed or homeless, don’t put it off.  This makes practical sense.  Now is the time to visit.  If you put it off “waiting until next year” the economic projections I am hearing is that the economy will be starting to climb out of the doldrums next year and then you’ll be here with everyone else.

Take advantage of the trip now, when travel costs are down and you can likely get great deals on wine and lodging.

If you have wine tours to Napa on your travel list, I hope I have shown why now is the time to plan and go.  It really is a gorgeous time of year and a terrific time to visit, taste and enjoy all the valley has to offer.

This stunning building is noted as a British place of historic interest. This is definitely something that everyone should see. From gilded lions, to gargoyles to stain glass windows, one could spend the entire day in the town hall alone.

St Chad’s Parish church is another stunning architectural work. This is the oldest standing building in Rochdale, and thought to be the location of the town’s original settlement. Many additions and transformations have taken place throughout the years. As a result, this building incorporates many different styles.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is a museum dedicated to a community which has had a profound affect on the fire fighting industry. Greater Manchester is know as the place where the first fire engine in Britain was purchased. In fact, for over one hundred and fifty years, fire engines have been built here. This museum has many interesting and historical displays which are certain to be enjoyed by family members of any age. Expect to see working replicas, with explanations by well informed guides. The best part of this visit, admission is free.

Broadfield park is the oldest park in the greater Manchester area. Dating back to Victorian times, much of it’s original charm and original fixtures are still in place. This park complete with Victorian bridge, statues, and even a bandstand, is a great way to relax and have fun, while still learning. This is perfect for people traveling with children, or without.

Hopwood woods nature reserve is a great way to relax while hiking, bird watching, and just plain unwinding on a sunny afternoon. This is the perfect place for a picnic lunch.

Loaded with great shopping and restaurants, and plenty of places to stay, Rochdale – Lancashire is an adventure for the whole family.

What Are Characteristics And Benefits Of Different Grape Varietals?

Posted in Napa Valley Articles at 2:09 pm by superjumpz

Image : http://www.flickr.com

First of all, let us see what do we understand when we say ‘grape varietals’. Many really do not know the actual meaning of the word, though they know what type of wines are called varietals. In ordinary circumstances, wines are made out of one type of grapes, majority of times coming from one regions vineyards. This is how certain wines are known by their flavor from which region/ country/ place they have been manufactured.

However, when then variety of grapes are mixed with another in a ratio of 1:3, then that wine is called varietals wine. Usually the “mixing” grapes are Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Merlot and so on. These varietals are held in high esteem all over the world. Most of these types of wines are world famous and unaffordable by the common man.

Characteristics of some of he best varietals in the world

Cabernet Sauvignon – this is one the best red wines in the world, having its origin in Bordeaux (France), You will also find it in California (Napa Valley).

Chardonnay – If reports are to be believed, this wine is the most bought white wine in the world. Since this wine is processed in wooden barrels as per the ancient traditions, its taste, flavour and body are exceptional.

Merlot – this is as famous and expensive as the best red wine in the world, the Cabernet Sauvigon. Merlot is famous for its different flavors one of which is chocolate.

Pint blanc – this wine is very fruity and dry. It is exceptionally tasty, if you like apple and spices taste. This wine is as popular as the Chardonnay, though it does not age as well as the latter,

Pinot Noir – This hint of raspberry and cherry taste, red wine with a comes from the region of Burgundy and is reported to be one of the best wines in the world.

There are a number of inexpensive wines in this bracket as well, and these are the Semillon which originates from California , Riesling which is a wine that comes from Germany, Pinot Gris is a white wine coming from Oregon USA and so on.

Benefits of he varietals

As you can see some of the best wines in the world are originating from grape varietals. These wines are in no way inferior to any other wines – rather hey are well sought after, some of them being hot favorites for the crème-a-la-crème of the world.

The advantages of these wines are that they are capable of capturing and showcasing two-three different tastes in the wine making the wine exquisite in taste. The color, the texture and the body of the wine too are a little extra than the normal wines of the world.

People all over the world have fallen in love with the different types of wine which thankfully have been blended because of the varietals. Imagine what it would be if all the wines were the same in taste, color and body? Not much fun isn’t it?

Travel in 2009 – All is Not Grim

Posted in Napa Valley Articles at 11:45 pm by superjumpz

To say that there are a lot of people who will be glad to see 2008 end as soon as possible would be a small understatement. It was a rough year and there is no discounting that. 2009 is not forecast to be much better, but travel may be an area where there is some silver lining.

Oddly enough, a recession is when we see consumers given the maximum amount of leverage over companies. Why? Well, there are fewer dollars to go around, which means you can start to get a better idea of real prices. I, for one, want to get into the flat screen television business. Suddenly, prices are dropping 70 percent or more and you can rest assured these companies are still making profits. Can you imagine how big those profits were before prices dropped? Amazing.

With 2009 shaping up to be another year of tight consumer spending, travelers are actually going to be in fairly good shape. This, of course, assumes you have money to travel. If you do, you are looking at an interesting landscape. First, fuel prices are way down as demand has disappeared. This means airlines should come correct on their extra baggage charges. Second, there are a lot of tourist markets competing for fewer and fewer tourists.

Consider Las Vegas. What does the city run on? Visitors. The entire city is designed to lure visitors into town and keep them there as long as possible. This is why the city went so “family friendly” years ago. If parents could bring kids with them, this opened up an entirely new market segment.

Now consider Vegas in 2009. Who has extra money to go to Las Vegas for a weekend? Not many people are going to be splurging. Vegas will act quickly. Expect to see some incredible package deals. They will be combining flights with rooms, foods and shows for prices not seen in two or thirty years. If you have some cash and want to see Sin City, this is going to be a great year for it.

Going international is going to probably represent an even better deal. Many international destinations focus on bringing in Americans and Europeans. These regions are obviously suffering through brutal economic periods and we won’t even mention the problems in Iceland. This is going to result in a harsh pull back on vacation travel. Tourist destinations that are typically packed with people are going to be hurting. From the Mexican Riviera to the Greek Islands, you can expect your tourist dollar to go along way.

The idea of going on a vacation in 2009 may seem iffy at best given the economic conditions. If you are one of the fortunate few who are doing alright in the current economic situation, however, there may be no better time to get more bang for your travel buck.

Honeymoons in the Countryside: Visit One of the Top 10 Wine Regions in World

For this month’s features on TripAtlas.com, we’re bringing you some of the top Honeymoon Destinations in the world. Last week, we brought you to the serene and secluded private island of Tikehau in French Polynesia’s Tuamotu Islands.

This week, we’re taking you to the romantic and remote countryside and best kept secret for your choice of honeymoon destinations – the many beautiful and lush wine regions all over the world.

Fields of countryside, mountain ranges, quaint and romantic bed and breakfasts, luxurious lodges and resorts, villas or medieval chateaux in the south of France are all yours for the taking. What better way to celebrate and commemorate your wedding and future than a tour through some of these regions, relaxing and living bottle to bottle.

The 10 Top Wine Regions of the World

Whether you’re a beginner or expert wine drinker looking for a honeymoon destination or romantic getaway, here’s a list of the Top 10 Wine Regions in the world, each of which have knowledgeable wine experts, fine food and inviting accommodations. From the classic Old World wines of European countries to the New World wines throughout the rest of the world, join us on our adventure to discover the best destinations.

The Top 5 Old World Wine Regions

5) Portugal. The main wine regions in Portugal are Minho, Douro and Dao, which are found in northern Portugal and are perfect for wine tours between Spain and Portugal. Portugal is home of the famous Port or Porto (named after Portugal’s second largest city) and Madeira wines, both fortified, strong bodied yet sweet and thick wines that are often used as after-dinner wines or “digestifs.”

4) Germany. While Germany is known to most for its beer rather than its wine, it shows in that it produces only 20% of what France produces in wine yearly. This region’s most famous wines are its sweet white Riesling wines. Refreshing, slightly sweet with a zing characterize these wines and are perfect for warm afternoons enjoying the Germany countryside. The biggest regions are Baden, Mosel, Palatinate (or Pfalz), and Rheinhessen.

3) Spain. The two most popular Spanish wine making regions are La Rioja in Logrono, Navarra to its east in the north, La Mancha in the central-south Spain where you can see the windmills of Don Quixote, and the Penedes region just near Barcelona in north-eastern Spain. The most popular Spanish wines are the bright red Rioja wines, the white sparkling Cava wines, and fortified Sherry wine in Jerez in southern Spain near the coast by Morocco.

2) Italy. As one of the largest producers of wine in the world, Italy’s main wine regions are found in northern Italy (Piedmont and Valle D’Aosta in north-west Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto in north-east Italy) with classic Tuscany to the south in central Italy. Many Italian wines are made for drinking with food and so visiting the wine region in Italy is perfect for food lovers and those seeking the perfect plate of pasta, meats and an array of cheeses.

1) France. From Bordeaux to Alsace, Burgundy to Beaujolais, Champagne, Languedoc and Cote de Rhone, France is definitely one of the world’s top wine regions. A classic “old world” wine producer, France is also the largest wine producer, with 34% of the exported wine market share in the world in 2006. The best way to explore these regions is to rent a car and drive through the countryside on your own to and from your bed and breakfast or chateaux.

The Top 5 New World Wine Regions

5) USA and Canada East Coast. Nestled in just a small region on the east coast, the wine growing regions in this area are: Ontario, Quebec, and New York. While these are definitive of “new world” wines, production in areas like Niagara and Prince Edward County in Ontario are becoming increasingly larger and recognized on the international stage. Known for its sweet ice wines and ice ciders in Ontario and Quebec, these wine regions are littered with bed and breakfasts, cozy lodges and honeymoon packages for those visiting Niagara Falls and Montreal.

4) South Africa. Although wine has been produced here since the 1600’s, it wasn’t until recent years that its wines have made it on the international scene. Located nearby just east of Cape Town, wine regions of South Africa include Stellenbosch, Paarl and Worcester and are adorned with stark white villas for accommodations. With similar climates as Argentina, Chile and Australia’s wine regions, South Africa is best known for its white Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay wines but are slowly developing its red varietals. For a spicier journey through the wine regions with views of fields for miles and strong African mountains in the background, don’t miss out on South Africa.

3) USA and Canada West Coast. The most noted states or provinces in this category include California and Oregon with Washington and British Columbia catching up quickly. The Napa Valley and Sonoma regions in California have been the heart of new world wines for many years, and have picturesque vineyards, mountains and luxurious but quaint accommodations throughout small towns like Yountville. Oregon has also surprised many in the wine world, having made a Pinot Noir that beat out its French counterparts – visit Willamette Valley’s many wine spots as well as Rouge or Applegate Valley in Southern Oregon for true countryside hospitality during your honeymoon.

2) Argentina & Chile. The Andes Mountains and surrounding areas have proven themselves as fantastic wine growing regions, offering a variety from Maipo Valley, Valle Central in Chile to Patagonia and Mendoza in Argentina. A visit to Argentina and Chile for a honeymoon is perfect any time of the year – with mild winters and warm summers, spring or fall is the best time to go to watch the colors change and the countryside come to life. Many tours are available into the wine regions from Buenos Aires, Mendoza or Santiago in Chile.

1) Australia & New Zealand. There’s more to Australian wine than Yellowtail, thank God. Australia has taken the lead in the new world of wines in its mass production of spicy Shiraz wines and strong Cabernet Sauvignons. Visit Hunter Valley, the largest wine production area in Australia, comparable to Napa Valley in California. For a warm and breathtaking honeymoon, try Austria or New Zealand for your honeymoon with all the hospitality the land down under has to offer.

So Bon Voyage on your honeymoon and remember to drink responsibly!
